Overview

This 'Joining an Audit and Risk Committee' workshop fits under the Governance Framework Dimension of the IoD Ireland Continuing Professional Development Framework for Directors. It is eligible for 6 hours of Chartered Director CPD. This session may also be eligible for other professional body CPD, please check with your relevant professional body. The workshop will be led by Martina Maher, Independent Non-Executive Director and will take place at the Irish Management Institute (IMI), Sandyford Road, Sandyford, Dublin 16. 

Audit and Risk Committees have a critical role to play in the governance of an organisation. Whether you are newly appointed to a committee or considering joining one, this practical workshop will equip you with the essential knowledge to fulfil your role with confidence and success.

• the main responsibilities of an Audit Committee

Workshop Outline

In this workshop, Martina will take participants through the following key areas:

• The role of Audit and Risk Committees.
• Key responsibilities of both committees covering at a high level topics such as:
  • risk management and internal control, including the risk management lifecycle and risk culture
  • internal and external audit
  • financial reporting
  • compliance
  • the key skills needed to be a member of these committees and what you can gain from being a member.

Workshop material is prepared by IoD trainers and produced by the IoD wholly and exclusively for use by workshop participants. Please note that workshop material is provided in hard copy to all participants. Requests for additional or soft copies of material may be accommodated upon receipt of written request.

Martina Maher CDir is an independent non-executive director (INED) and consultant with board level experience covering the financial services, sustainability, and non-for-profit sectors.  She has extensive senior level experience in the areas of governance, strategy, risk management and internal audit. Martina has over 25 years’ leadership experience gained across leading commercial organisations in the public and private sector in the UK and Ireland. She has held senior roles in AIB Group, the National Treasury Management Agency, Bank of Ireland Group, KPMG and Deloitte. 

A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and a UCD Law graduate, Martina also has a Diploma in Company Direction (Institute of Directors) and is a Fellow of the Institute of Banking.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

Places can only be confirmed on receipt of full payment. Cancellations and a full refund will be accepted if received in writing to training@iodireland.ie by 5pm on Wednesday, 15th November 2023. After this date, no refund will be possible, and all fees will be forfeited in the event of a cancellation or non-attendance.
