IoD Ireland reaction to new Government

News

As the Government announces final Cabinet positions later today, Institute of Directors (IoD) Ireland welcomes the Government's ambitious commitments to enhancing governance, transparency, and gender balance across key sectors.

Speaking ahead of the Government appointments, IoD Ireland CEO Caroline Spillane CDir said:

“We commend the plans, already outlined in the Programme for Government, to mandate adherence to international best practices in governance, transparency, and anti-corruption measures for national governing bodies and sports organisations. These initiatives will strengthen trust and integrity across these vital sectors.
“We note the proposal to enact legislation to modernise the corporate governance model of RTÉ, ensuring its operations remain transparent and aligned with its important public service mandate. IoD Ireland would welcome the opportunity to work with the Government to provide expert input to the planning and drafting of this important piece of legislation.
“Furthermore, the focus on improving gender representation and leadership is a milestone we strongly support. Initiatives such as the Women in Finance initiative, Balance for Better Business, and mentorship programs are crucial to achieving meaningful gender parity in executive and non-executive roles. The commitment to a 40% gender representation target on boards reaffirms Ireland's dedication to equality and inclusion in leadership, positioning the country as a global leader in this space,”

The Institute of Directors (Ireland) looks forward to collaborating with Government ministers and their Departments, public and private sectors, and other stakeholders to implement these transformative changes. Together, we can work towards the vision of making Ireland an exemplar of corporate governance.
