Caroline Spillane CDir, Chief Executive Officer, IoD Ireland, opened the event by welcoming over 200 members to the first IoD Ireland in-person event of 2025 at the Westbury Hotel, Dublin. In her opening address, Caroline drew attention to the findings of the IoD Ireland snap poll published at the end of 2024 which revealed the top three priorities business leaders wanted the new Minister for Enterprise to focus on in the Programme for Government. These included: infrastructure investment and development; global competitiveness and trade tariffs; and FDI.
In his presentation, Jim Power, Economist and Media Commentator, gave an overview of both domestic and international developments for the year ahead, which included the impacts of the new Irish and US Governments, as well as the new EU commission.
During the discussion, key economic trends were discussed, such as the impact of interest rates, inflation, and exchange rates. Jim also gave a brief overview of the housing market in Ireland in 2025, and discussed the importance of ensuring serious efforts are made to address vital strategic areas such as energy, water and housing. He also outlined the issues and challenges ahead for Ireland in 2025, including geo-political instability, and the threat caused by 'Maganomics'.
The exclusive event, a key IoD Ireland benefit, provided business leaders and directors with a key networking opportunity to connect and reconnect as a member community.
