Lunch Bites @ The IoD - Paul Gilligan - Love Hurts: Living with Emotional Pain - 14th February 2019

We are pleased to announce that Paul Gilligan, Clinical Psychologist and CEO of St. Patrick’s Mental Health Services will address ‘Love Hurts: Living with Emotional Pain’.

Except perhaps for very young children, happiness does not come from the absence of  - but rather from the healing of - emotional pain, an essential human capacity that is within us all. Finding resolution involves accepting our humanity, facing our fears and connecting with love and passion.

Paul will explore the essential human purpose of emotional pain and will discuss the psychological skills required in the journey towards resolution.”

Paul Gilligan is a Clinical Psychologist and Chief Executive of St. Patrick’s Mental Health Services.   He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Trinity College Dublin. Paul is also former Vice-Chairman of the National Children’s Advisory Council, a former President of the Psychological Society of Ireland and a former Chairman of the Children’s Rights Alliance. He was a member of the Government established Vision for Change Independent Monitoring Group and Garda Vetting Implementation Group. 

Before taking up his current post with St. Patrick’s, Paul was Chief Executive of the ISPCC.  He is author of two parenting books “Keeping Your Child Safe” (2008), and "Raising Emotionally Healthy Children" (2015). He is an internationally recognised Children’s Rights Advocate and a Fellow of the Psychological Society of Ireland.
